Hi Simmers,
I've created an IFR flight, without using the GPS and flew it over and over.
This flight only rely on VOR's, NDB's and the ILS landing system and will keep you a bit busy in the cockpit with little time to look outside

--because there's nothing to see!
Here's the info:
The Senator of the state Louisiana(USA) and 5 of his staff need to attend an emergency meeting in New Orleans (Louisiana). But they are stuck at Hammond Mun Airport, 30min +, flying time away from New Orleans. See, the visiblity is realy bad and there is no pilot who has the guts to fly them. So you are their only hope, but there is one problem; "the GPS does not work"!
Note: Please do not use the GPS.
Flight info and Settings:
No need to load a flightplan.
Departure airport: Hammond Mun
(KHDC)
Destination airport: Lake Front
(KNEW)
Aircraft: Cessna 208 Grand Caravan.
Weather: Select - Sky clear, but set stratus clouds 3000ft to 5500ft overcast, set visibilty slider to 1mile / 1.6km.
Time of day: 15:00 PM local time
Navigation:
Take-off runway 18 (KHDC), turn left HDG 150*, intercept QDM 090* inbound DEF - freq256 (NDB). Fly till crossing radial 350* HRV - 114.10(VOR), turn right HDG 130*, intercept localiser ILS rwy 18 - freq 111.30 (KNEW). ILS Intercept altitude = 1700ft (KNEW).
Flying tip:
Before starting your plane, set up your NAV-aids in the plane:
1) Set altitude to
3500 ft - click ALT hold button (climb rate = 1000ft/min)
2) Tune ADF radio:
DEF 256 (NDB)
3) Tune ADF dial till
150* is on top.
4) Tune NAV1 to:
HRV 114.10 (VOR)
5) Tune NAV1 second window:
111.30 (ILS rwy 18 - KNEW)
6) Set HDG bug:
150* - don't click HDG hold yet
7) Set yellow COURSE arrow on DI to
350* - for radial HRV (VOR).
OK.....start, taxi and take-off rwy 18 (KHDC).
When climbing through 1500ft - click
HDG hold button (auto pilot on). A/c will turn left, 150*. Fly till yellow ADF needle (arrow) fall / point on E (090), then turn HDG bug to
090. (ADF needle must point upwards when you're flying east). So now you're on QDM 090 DEF (NDB) flying towards it.
Now, NAV1 window must be
114.10. While flying on QDM 090 DEF, wait for the middle section of the COURSE indicator / arrow to lign-up with the rest of arrow. (when it happens you're crossing radial 350* HRV (VOR). Immediately turn HDG bug right
130*.
Now quickly tune:
a) COURSE indicator to
180*
b) NAV1 window to
111.30 -
switch mode(for ILS rwy 18 (KNEW) - you've set it up earlier.
OK.....now your'e set up for the ILS. Wait till the middle bar of the COURSE arrow is align again with itself, then click
NAV hold button.
Your aircraft will now be guided by the ILS localiser rwy 18, and all you have to do is to wait for the Tri-angles (Glide slope) to come down to the middle of the DI - then click APP button (approach hold).
Note: Don't forget the flaps and approach speed 95 knots.
HOPE YOU ENJOY AS WELL AS I DID!
